Hashtags will expose your project to new eyes and help potential investors learn more about something they would have otherwise never seen.

Whitelist spots are when you give somebody a guaranteed chance at purchasing an NFT during launch. If you build up enough popularity, getting a whitelist spot in itself will feel like winning the lottery.
