Who created the metaverse?

The term metaverse originated in 1992, when it was first mentioned in a sci-fi novel called Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson. It referred to a computer-generated virtual universe, which can be accessed through digital assets called avatars, which were the digital replicas of real people created to enable people to access the metaverse and interact with its elements. Same as today, the original metaverse or concept was intended to give a virtual place for people (avatars) to go to when looking to escape their boring or dull reality. It was focused on creating an alternative but better virtual socialising experience for people.
